There are many surveys and studies with conflicting claims. Much of it has to do with the existing culture in an organization, as well as the kind of work they do. Many factors.

I really enjoyed the book. Thank you for offering this webinar.
Two questions:
I was wondering how you think Automattic’s model would work for a more diverse workforce. The culture you describe in the book is very much centered on young, male, tech-savvy, western-socialised software developers. I was envisioning myself (female, a generation older, and while working in the tech world, not a technical person myself) in that specific culture and imagined I’d probably be rather miserable. :) Do you think this kind of approach can still be effective with teams from many diverse backgrounds, different ages, cultures, languages, etc.? What would have to be tweaked?
Second, do you have any thoughts on how the lessons and insights you gained from your tenure at Automattic could be applied to globally distributed teams which aren’t necessarily all remote? What would be some good ways to extend team feel and culture that each local team has developed for themselves to a wider global group, where most people haven’t met in person? How would you avoid “us-vs-them” think and help the teams gel as a whole?
