More on why software sucks
There’s a nice thread in response to the essay why software sucks over at artima.com.
Artima.com is an interesting forum for software development news and discussion. I hadn’t seen it before I found it in my traffic logs.
Scott,
I tried contacting you via your contact link but it didn’t work for some reason. Not sure if this fits in the category of “sucks” but hopefully not. In light of your post on why software sucks I thought you might like to read the backstory to a set of applescripts I designed for the Mac called “Ready-Set-Do!” It comprehensively integrates all of one’s files and programs into David Allen’s GTD workflow. I’m looking for a few more mac users to try it out for me and let me know what they think. Since you know computers well you may like the approach I’ve taken by trying to implement the GTD workflow using the file system architecture — and thus making it program-independent. It thus works with all types of files and programs (including programs yet to be written for the mac). I’m only an amateur when it comes to programming in applescript as the backstory makes clear, but these scripts have been working great for me and I think others might like them as well. If you want to give them a whirl and let me know what you think (or you know others who can) I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
The backstory on the scripts is located here:

P.S. Love the syllabus for your course at U of W!!!
