I will write you an essay – for free!

Confession: I am in serious essay debt and I need your help to get out.

The story: I made a commitment when I quit MSFT in 2003 to publish an essay a month on the website. That’s 12 a year. Here are my stats:

2006: 5 (!)
2005: 12
2004: 10

So I owe the universe or myself (whomever cares more), 9 essays. That’s right. Not to mention the 3 so far this year that haven’t materialized yet.

I have plenty of ideas, but I’m bored with my ideas. I want yours. That way I’m guaranteed at least one person other than myself will give a shit when I post the thing.

So here’s your chance: If you could rent my brain to write something, what would the title of the essay be? What topic do you think I’m chicken to write about? What mean scary question do you want me to answer?

Lets get it on!

Topic: “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”
    600 words
For this essay, you will need to choose one of the three texts below and connect the themes of the text to something contemporary. Firstly, you will need to write an introduction in which you give the main ideas of the text or perhaps a history of the particular topic discussed by the author. This introduction should build to your thesis, which should make a statement about the main idea of the chosen story, and how this main idea ties in with 21st century American society. Secondly, you will need to write two to three body paragraphs, each of which begins with a strong, specific topic sentence. It might make sense to have one paragraph in which you specify exactly what the main idea of the story is. The subsequent paragraph could function as the discussion of how the ideas of the text are relevant to America today. Try to use specific examples, either from the news or personal experiences. If you use personal experiences, try not to use first person in the paper. Thirdly, you will need to write a conclusion that both restates what you have said throughout the paper, and also offers suggestions for alleviating problems raised by the issues in these stories.

    Requirements
There should be a total of at least four paragraphs in your essay and the thesis should be the last sentence of your first paragraph. The thesis should have two to three clear points, each of which relates specifically to one of your body paragraphs. Failure to follow this simple format will result in the deduction of a letter grade.
IN ADDITION, YOU MUST USE 2-3 QUOTES FROM THE TEXT IN EACH BODY PARAGRAPH. Choose parts of the text that support your points.

    Outline
    Paragraph #1: Intro and thesis
Paragraph #2: Discussion of the main idea of the story
Paragraph #3: Your own original example that connects with the theme of the text
    Paragraph #4: Conclusion

i need an essay about….Does John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry help the cause of abolition? Is a question a lot of people ask themselves and ask others. Well I’m here to answer that question for you and everyone else that ask that question. John Brown became a martyr to those opposed to slavery, and the controversy over his actions at Harpers Ferry and his fate helped stoke the tensions that pushed the United States to the brink of Civil War. The reason for all this is the northerners thought of John as a martyr which made them take action, The raid, trial and execution served to awaken the conscience of much of the nation. At first everyone thought he was a just a murderer but during the trial, people learned the motive of his actions and that made an impression on the nation, and Helped bring on the civil war. based off of that i need 4 other paragraphs about can you please help me and i need it quick please and thank yuo

Essay 2: Responding to and Analyzing Art

    •?First Draft Due: 11/02
    •?Second Draft Due: 11/09
    •?Final Draft Due: 11/16
    •?Length: 5 pages

This essay asks you to consider the essays of Brian Doyal, Patricia Hampl, and Scott Russell Sanders (from BAE) as inspiration.

Each author scrutinizes elements of the world in order to better understand them. Practicing analysis, particularly in response to art, is an exercise in self-knowledge and improved creative expression.

Building on our readings and our field trip to a Columbia College-Chicago art exhibit, write an informed response to one piece of visual media and/or art (does not have to be from the Columbia gallery).

Use your own voice and your best critical thinking skills to identify meaningful elements of a work of art. Engage with your reader in an intelligent dialogue about how you respond to this piece and why that matters. Remember to be specific and to avoid clichés.

Work from the broader elements to the minutest details in order to share your most original analytical response with an audience of your peers.

Consult published art reviews of all kinds during this process to examine how critics use language in order to respond to art.

Some questions to consider in order to help you begin to brainstorm:
What kinds of art are you drawn to? Why? What elements of media/art make it ‘good’ in your opinon? What elements make certain art more worthy of your time and attention?
What personal characteristics make you inclined towards certain works of art (Does gender play a role in what you are drawn to? Your age? You family background? Your belief system?)
How do you move though a gallery? What is your eye (or other senses) drawn to?
(Or-how do you navigate through tv channels, radio stations, movie listings, book shelves, clothing racks in stores, music listings on iTunes…?)
What makes you an authority on what’s meaningful in the world?
What gives you special powers of discernment when it comes to identifying particular kinds of meaningful artwork?
How can you translate you knowledge to others through writing? How can certain language choices help you?
*What more will you need to know before you can properly assess this work of art for your reader? Is there more research to do? More background to learn about?
    ?
    Analysis
Analysis = determining what the features suggest and deciding why the artist used such features to convey specific ideas.
It answers the question, “How did the artist do it?” The various elements that constitute analysis include:
    • Determination of subject matter through naming iconographic elements, e.g., historical event, allegory, mythology, etc.
    • Selection of most distinctive features or characteristics whether line, shape, color, texture, etc.
    • Analysis of the principles of design or composition, e.g., stable,
    • repetitious, rhythmic, unified, symmetrical, harmonious, geometric, varied, chaotic, horizontal or vertically oriented, etc.
    • Discussion of how elements or structural system contribute to appearance of image or function
    • Analysis of use of light and role of color, e.g., contrasty, shadowy, illogical, warm, cool, symbolic, etc.
    • Treatment of space and landscape, both real and illusionary (including use of perspective), e.g., compact, deep, shallow, naturalistic, random
    • Portrayal of movement and how it is achieved
    • Effect of particular medium(s) used
    • Your perceptions of balance, proportion and scale (relationships of each part of the composition to the whole and to each other part) and your emotional
    • Reaction to object or monument
    Can Include
Interpretation = establishing the broader context for this type of art.
It answers the question, “Why did the artist create it and what does it mean?”. The various elements that constitute interpretation include:
    • Main idea, overall meaning of the work.
    • Interpretive Statement: Can I express what I think the artwork is about in one sentence?
    • Evidence: What evidence inside or outside the artwork supports my interpretation?
Judgment: Judging a piece of work means giving it rank in relation to other works and of course considering a very important aspect of the visual arts; its originality.
    • Is it a good artwork?
    • Criteria: What criteria do I think are most appropriate for judging the artwork?
    • Evidence: What evidence inside the artwork relates to each criterion?
*Judgment: Based on the criteria and evidence, what is my judgment about the quality of the artwork?
    ?
    Barrett’s Principles of Interpretation
    1. Artworks have “aboutness” and demand interpretation.
    2. Interpretations are persuasive arguments.
    3. Some interpretations are better than others.
    4. Good interpretations of art tell more about the artwork than they tell about the critic.
    5. Feelings are guides to interpretations.
    6. There can be different, competing, and contradictory interpretations of the same artwork.
    7. Interpretations are often based on a worldview.
    8. Interpretations are not so much absolutely right, but more or less reasonable, convincing, enlightening, and informative.
    9. Interpretations can be judged by coherence, correspondence, and inclusiveness.
    10. An artwork is not necessarily about what the artist wanted it to be about.
    11. A critic ought not to be the spokesperson for the artist.
    12. Interpretations ought to present the work in its best rather than its weakest light.
    13. The objects of interpretation are artworks, not artists.
    14. All art is in part about the world in which it emerged.
    15. All art is in part about other art.
    16. No single interpretation is exhaustive of the meaning of an artwork.
    17. The meanings of an artwork may be different from its significance to the viewer. Interpretation is ultimately a communal endeavor, and the community is ultimately self- corrective.
    18. Good interpretations invite us to see for ourselves and to continue on our own.

i need help on a couple essays.. IF thats okay

    1)
Compose a 250-500 word essay. In the first half of the essay, discuss how the background and cultural context of Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, or Woody Guthrie has contributed to the worldview expressed in his or her works. You should refer to specific quotes from various works to support your analysis of the author’s worldview.

In the second part of your essay, transition into a reflection on your own sense of place and how it has influenced your own values and worldview. Explain the most important components of your personal worldview and discuss the extent to which your values are (or are not) a product of your own cultural context.

    2)
Respond to one of the prompts below with a 150-300 word essay.

Write an essay discussing whether A Raisin in the Sun fits Aristotle’s descriptions of “tragedy.” In your essay, you should discuss at least three of the Aristotelian tenets listed in the lesson with reference to the play. Also, be sure to discuss “universal” elements of the play that you feel would evoke pity and fear in any audience.

Write an essay discussing A Raisin in the Sun through a “historical lens.” In other words, discuss how the tragic plight of the main characters specifically reflects the plight of urban African-Americans at the time when the play was first written and performed. What “tragic flaws” does the play reveal in contemporary society or in the characters themselves?

    3)

Compose a 150 – 250 word essay of persuasion. While composing, keep in mind Aristotle’s Three Elements of Rhetoric or Persuasion and the outline in this lesson.

When you have completed this assignment, click on the Let Me Discover icon to print out a peer evaluation form. Ask a friend, classmate, or family member to evaluate your first draft. Once you have feedback, revise your final draft, run a Spelling and Grammar Check,

    4)

Comparing the Original and the Satire
Compare the lyrics of Coolio’s “Gangsta Paradise” with the lyrics of Weird Al’s “Amish Paradise.” Save your work and submit to the dropbox as Assignment 2.2.3.
Describe the differences and similarities between the two sets of lyrics.

Use the questions below to develop your comparison. You will see differences in the words and themes used.

Are there more single syllable nouns and adjectives (monosyllabic) than multi-syllable nouns and adjectives (polysyllabic)?
Are the words used primarily colloquial (slang) informal (conversational), formal (literary), or old fashioned?
Are many abstract words used (general words dealing with ideas, concepts, or feelings) or are most of the words concrete (specific names, properties, places, behaviors and so forth)?
Are the sentences telegraphic (five words or less), short (thirty-five words or less), or long (more than thirty-five words)?
Are the sentence forms simple (subject, verb, predicate) or complicated (complex, compound, compound-complex)?

What nouns, verbs, and themes are repeated most frequently?

Explain what makes Weird Al’s song a satire. Identify the type of satire.

Hello, can you help me write a topic under with 2,500?

    Human resource management
You are required to write a 2,500 word essay based on the following question:
“ Discuss the characteristics of a ‘strong’ internal labour market. With reference to relevant models and theories, critically evaluate how the perceived need for greater organisational flexibility has acted to erode access to such a labour market for many employees.”

If you are unsure about what is required in writing an essay at university-level or feel that need to improve on your performance at level one, it is advisable to buy or refer to an essay-writing guide. A particularly good book is:

Tissington, P., Hasel, M. and Mathieson, J. (2009) How to write successful business and management essays, London: Sage

Alternative study guides that will help you with exam and essay writing include:

    • Crème, P. and Lea, M. R. (2003) Writing at University: a guide for students (2nd edition). Berkshire: Open University Press.
    • Drew, S. and Bingham, R. (2001) The Student Skills Guide (2nd edition). Hampshire: Gower Publishing Ltd.
    • Northedge, A. (2005) The Good Study Guide. Milton Keynes: Open University Press.

Marking of assignments and student feedback

All components of the assessment criteria are important and these are indicated as Assessment Criteria 1-6 on the feedback form. These criteria are ranked in order of significance (1 being the most significant and so forth). Whilst no formal mark has been attached to each criterion, certain elements will gain you higher marks than others.

For example, criteria one is the most important element of assessment as it encourages students to assess rather than merely describe what they have read. Evidence of critical evaluation demonstrates that students have gone beyond merely describing the literature and have begun to assess the strengths and weaknesses of certain theories and practices as well as drawing out their similarities and differences. This can be achieved through a thorough reading and understanding of the literature and familiarization with the key arguments presented (criteria two). The linking of theory and practice will demonstrate that you are able to apply theoretical debates to empirical data and other case study materials (criteria three). A coherent structure will demonstrate that you are able to build an argument in a logical way, addressing key points and discussing in a structured way (criteria four). Use of course and other materials, evidenced through appropriate referencing, will demonstrate that you have read the literature but an effective reading of these materials will show that you have understood and applied what you have read (criteria five). Finally, fulfilment of criteria 6 means that your writing is of a good quality with acceptable levels of grammar and sentence construction and that you have referenced appropriately.

To reiterate, all of these assessment criteria are important but some are more important than others in that they allow access to higher marks. As a general guide, a basic essay that merely describes and reports back the literature will gain you a pass at the lower end of the rating scale while an essay that demonstrates an in-depth understanding and critical evaluation of the literature will gain you a mark at the higher end of the rating scale.

    What is critical evaluation?

The ability to critically evaluate is one of the key skills that you need to develop throughout your time at UWE. Such skills are developed through questioning, debating and discussing what you have read (and heard in lectures!), assessing research from different viewpoints, relating different viewpoints and highlighting similarities and differences, going beyond description to a scholarly and informed response to what has been written and importantly, treating the work of others with respect (critically evaluating as opposed to criticizing).

    Marking Guidelines

    (A) Distinction Level (70%+)

Overall, an excellent assignment that covers all the key points, with perhaps some additions, leaving very little scope for improvement. The essay must contain the following:
    • An introduction that tells the reader how the question has been interpreted, how the student intends to answer the question, definitions of key terms, etc.
    • A middle section that systematically discusses each point in turn, covers all aspects of the question, analyses and critically evaluates these points and provides supporting evidence and quotations which show a knowledge and understanding of theory and demonstrates evidence of wider reading
    • A conclusion that draws the key themes together and provides a summary of the main findings as well as the student’s own interpretation of the answer
    • A concisely written assignment that demonstrates a clear and thoughtful understanding of the topic
    • All key points raised and debated
    • A logical structure with discussion flowing between points raised
    (B) 2:1 (60-69%)

Overall, a good assignment that meets many of the key points, although some points may require further development.
    • Students should be able to have done most of the above, for example, the essay should have a clear structure but this may go adrift in parts of the main body of the essay
    • Most but not all of the key points highlighted
    • There may be a failure to develop key points raised
    • A good understanding of the topic should be demonstrated through a competent answer that is well structured and covers a good number of the relevant issues
    • A mark in the mid-upper 60’s would contain an appropriate level of critical evaluation and discussion

    (C) 2:2 (50-59%)

An adequate assignment that meets many of the key points but is rather sketchy at times with arguments/material that require further development. Students are expected to show a reasonable level of understanding of the topic but:
    • The structure might be ‘loose’
    • A number of key points will have been raised but their significance not explained
    • Limited use of source material
    • Very limited/no evidence of critical evaluation and discussion

    (D) 2:3 (40-49%)

An assignment that is limited in scope, addresses a sufficient number of the key points to merit a pass but material would be very thin or given limited consideration. The assignment may appear confusing in places. This type of assignment would contain some key points and have a semblance of structure. However:
    • The student will have failed to develop these points sufficiently
    • The structure of the assignment will be ‘loose’
    • There may be some errors
    • Use of source material will be limited.

    (E) Marginal Fail (35-39%)

Again, essays at this level address few (if any) of the key points, inadequate understanding and insufficient development of the material and/or inclusion of largely irrelevant material. This type of assignment would demonstrate very little understanding of the topic and make little use of source material. It is unlikely that it would contain a coherent structure. It would be evident that the student had not grasped the essentials of the assignment. This is a small range of marks that would be awarded only if the marker is sure that the essay does not meet the pass criteria but is not poor enough to fail overall.

    (F) Fail (34% or below)
Essay addresses few (if any) of the key points, inadequate understanding and insufficient development of the material and/or inclusion of largely irrelevant material. This type of assignment would demonstrate very little understanding of the topic and would not show an adequate level of reading from the sources provided. It is unlikely that the essay will have a coherent structure, grammar may be poor and sentences difficult to understand. The marker would be left feeling that the student had not grasped the basics of the question set. Although a few points may be evident, there will be little explanation of their relevance. Some basic descriptions may be included but there will be very little, if any, analysis.

The marking feedback sheet below shows the criteria that we consider in marking your essays. Students should refer to these criteria and ensure that they address each area to the best of their ability.

    Referencing

It is essential that you fully reference all ideas, theories, quotes and statistics you have cited in your submitted assignment. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of marks, possible failure and/or accusations of plagiarism (the act of presenting the ideas or discoveries of another as one’s own). The method students MUST use is the Harvard system, a guide to which can be found via the UWE library home page, under ‘Referencing Guide’. Please ensure that you refer to this for guidance on referencing in the main text and references at the end of your essay.

There are several reasons for referencing. In the course of your studies you will be expected to acknowledge books, journal articles, etc, used in preparation for assignments, projects, essays, and dissertations, by producing a list of references/bibliography with each one. Basically, a reference is a description of the document from which you have obtained your information. When writing essays you are expected to read around your subject and referencing is a way of demonstrating that you have completed that reading. Each time you use someone else’s ideas or words it is essential that you acknowledge this in your work. You should provide references to substantiate your arguments and to enable your reader to follow up your source material. You should reference whenever you use any source of information for particular facts, theories, findings or ideas in an author’s work; a direct quotation; paraphrasing an author’s words.

    Dear Burken,

I love to write and I really want to write and publish my very first book. I am willing to put the time and effort in that is necessary to accomplish a masterpiece. Do you have any advice for me to get started beside carrying a notebook 24/7? If you know the steps on writing a book could you write an essay “how to write your first novel”? I really want to do this, I have a few ideas but I don’t know my setting, plot, or characters yet so I’m not even close to getting started with an outline :(

I would appreciate an email reply with your thoughts.
    Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely, a writer who cares,
    Brice
