Mindfire preorders now up – via kickstarter

You can now place pre-orders for Mindfire, for kindle or print, by going to the brand new kickstarter page.  Beyond the book, there are fun items in limited supply you can get:

  • Get your name in the acknowledgements (if you pre-order before 9/1)
  • Signed copies of the new book
  • A package of all four of my books, personally signed
  • A one hour Skype chat – you rent my brain from the comfort of your computer
  • I’ll travel to you (U.S) and deliver a lecture of your choice

Please check it out and help spread the word.

Important Note: I’m still working out the details, but it is possible I’ll give the book away for free in some digital formats for the first few days, as a thank you to my fans. No promises, but I don’t want anyone pissed if this happens.  If you’re strapped for cash, and are digital only, wait until launch, first week in October.

To guarantee you get the book, or if you don’t mind actually paying writers, go right ahead and pre-order now.

Pre-order Mindfire: Big Ideas for Curious Minds.

P.S. Cover design isn’t final, but close. A post about the design coming soon.

Just pledged for a pre-order. I think it would be interesting for you to do a blog post about your experience using Kickstarter. Benefits / downsides, costs, etc.

I hope it all works out for you.
I won’t be pledging myself, since I don’t have facebook, (with a facebook password) but it occurs to me that others might want to know: Is Canada regarded as an international add-$10 country?

      Sean,

You can create an account with Kickstarter. You only need your email address; it took me less than a minute to do so.

I’d love to get the book in electronic format but not Kindle. Would it be possible to get a pdf (Adobe drm is ok for me)? May be you can also sell it via deisel ebooks?

    Hey Scott,

As Kickstarter works via Amazon Payment, I guess there’s no PayPal available?

Very glad to see you using kickstarter, I’m a big fan.

One request: Any chance you could add a $29 or similar level for “Kindle copy plus print edition?”

One additional thought: You’re clearly going to blow past your goal without any real trouble, so it may not be something that you’re going to really _need_ to worry about, but for people who are going to find this via Kickstarter are going to expect a video rather than a still image, and a good video is a big help.

My friend Daniel just did a very successful kickstarter for his game “Do: Pilgrims of the Flying temple” and he put up some tips based on his experience making kickstarter videos ( http://danielsolisblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/10-tips-for-kickstarter-video-for-game.html ). It’s technically focused on games (kickstarter has been a huge boon for small game companies) but most of it would apply here. And it’s probably not a coincidental that a lot of the tips overlap with general presentation tips, but I suppose that would only be useful if you were a skilled public speaker (*cough* *cough*).

Anyway, you’ve got my money one way or another, but it’s something you might want to consider.

I just pre-ordered the print version with a $20 pledge, but there was no mechanism for providing my mailing address for the book. How is that going to work?

Kickstarter will send out an email with a request for your address once the project is done. The idea is that way it’s not farming addresses for unfinished products.

Pre-order seems to only be available for US residents. I am pretty sure the number of people who wants to pre-order (or make a pledge) outside US far outnumbers those in the US. I hope you do something on this.

        Hi Scott,

The first attempts I tried were unsuccessful.

Now, I am trying to make a pledge for $100, but it is already closed. Would you still open it for more pledges? I would love to have a collection of all your books signed, and that in itself is what I need. Please let me know if this is possible.

        Thank you.

I wanted to pledge $100 but that offer of receiving all 4 books is already gone … any chances of bringing that offer back.

Hi Harris: Sorry, but the kickstarter program is closed. Stay tuned though – the book will be available soon.
